Identity check and visa checkpoint September 2025

Once you have completed online registration, to finish your registration you will need to attend either an in-person ID check (UK and Irish students) or an in-person visa checkpoint (EU/EEA/Swiss and international students)  when you arrive. 

At the checkpoint a staff member will confirm with you:

• Your personal details
• Your course details
• A term-time and home address
• Your permission to study in the UK

Attending an ID or visa checkpoint

All students registering for the first time on a new course are required to attend the relevant checkpoint and provide original documentation that evidences their right to study in the UK.

Students who are UK or Irish citizens have an automatic right to study in the UK and should attend an ID check.

Students holding any other passport must attend a visa checkpoint, including students holding unlimited leave or any form of EU Settlement Status, as we must record this as a visa check in our systems. The Division of Student and Academic Services are responsible for the collection and maintenance of these records in line with our published privacy notice.

Where checkpoints take place

The checkpoints will take place on campus at the Charles Wilson Building Sports Hall and you will need to ensure you have booked an appointment to attend. Bookings will open in August 2025 and the link will be included in your invitation to register, as well as any reminders. You will need to present your identity documents (please see a list of valid documents below) and then you can receive your student ID card. 

When you must attend a checkpoint

For our September intake, most courses will start on Monday 22 September 2025 and students need to have completed registration as soon as possible by this date.

Don't leave it to the deadline - we recommend that you register as soon as you can after you arrive to ensure a smooth start to your studies.

What to expect

Our September Registration Event will be held in the Charles Wilson Building Sports Hall on central campus. There will be lots of friendly staff and signage in place to help you find your way!

For those who may prefer a quieter Registration experience, consider booking your appointment from 3pm onwards when it tends to be less busy in the Sports Hall. If you are unable to book an appointment later in the day, but would prefer to register in a quieter environment, please reach out to our AccessAbility team for support.
